Learn about the many ways that women handle their 'time of the month' and how other cultures think about periods. We promise you 'll come away thinking that getting a period might be inconvenient, but overall is a really cool part of being a woman.

Learning to look critically at the thousands of images we are exposed to each day strengthens our self awareness and helps us make deliberate choices about who we want to be. This is a multi-media presentation including music, videos, slides, discussion, and a fun interactive activity.

A Women is A Rock! South African Song of Women's Empowerment

Did you know it was women who organized the first freedom march in South Africa? In 1956, twenty thousand women marched in the first mass protest against apartheid; launching a movement that lasted nearly 40 years and ultimately succeeded in bringing political freedom to black South Africans. Learn the song and dance women sang to strengthen their courage as they marched - a song to empower women and liberate a people.

The Beatbox Blueprint

During this session the girls and their parents will learn some basic history of beatboxing and hiphop culture in general. The focus will be on teaching everyone the 3 fundamental sounds of "beatboxing" or "vocal percussion". Next, we will break into groups and practice our new sounds with people encouraged to experiment with new sounds or even freestyle rapping over the beats.We will also have a microphone and amp for people to test out their new beats and hear what it sounds like amplified.
