River, Program Director
In her role as Program Director at Ophelia’s Place, River is responsible for overseeing the After and Out of School (AOS) Program, our intern training program, and delivering professional development trainings for community-serving organizations and professionals. She has expertise in issues of girls/youth advocacy and leadership, poverty, body acceptance and Health at Every Size (HAES), anti-oppression practice, healthy communication and mentorship, and program development. She is dedicated to the belief that it is possible to change systems of power that exploit and isolate into spaces rooted in relationship and reciprocity. River feels especially fortunate to be able to support adolescents and those who work with them.
In her personal life, River is a writer, fiber and mixed-media artist, forager, forest-wanderer, potion-maker, and tiny-bird enthusiast. She lives with two demanding cats in a house full of books.
River would tell her 13-year-old self: Don’t focus on comparing yourself to others, let your own unique self shine! You are exactly enough just as you are.
